July 1, 2004 Dear friends and family, In answer to the Call of the Lord Jesus Christ, I am returning to Africa as a teaching missionary. My daughter, Justy, and her son, Riley, will be a part of this mission experience. They will be staying with me in Tanzania for at least a year; I am committed for three years. We will be working with New Zealand missionaries Alan and Lynda Stephenson at their home base, called En Gedi. Their website is www.joshua.or.tz Primarily, my work will be in the Joshua Teacher Training Center (JTTC). I will be working with other dedicated teacher/missionaries on the Center's curriculum, teaching in the classroom, making clinical observations in the village schools, teaching and organizing seminars for needy teachers in the villages, and working some in the Bible college. Because Tanzania does not have an adequate educational system, most Tanzanians are illiterate. The few schools that exist are private, and very few parents can afford the tuition (the average income is $400 per year). They are desperate to have an education for their children. What a difference these new teachers will make Many are returning to their villages to teach the children. Justy will be working with the Foundation as a part of the new media team. She will be working on stories, books and other classroom aids. She will also be involved in creating printed materials to help the Foundation spread the word of their mission and gain additional financial support. Her love of Jesus and her excellent computer production skills are valuable assets to our mission. Jacob Riley is along for the blessings that only 3 year olds can bring - a kind of joy and love not found anywhere else, and a view of the world we often forget. Through this work we seek to lead the Tanzanian people to the love of the Lord in Jesus Christ, to offer them hope through the Gospel of Salvation, and to help them become outstanding Christian teachers, that they may share their knowledge and love of Christ with others. Besides, it just sounds like fun, doesn't it? And who hasn't wanted to go to Africa at some point? See the elephants and the lions, the Maasai warriors, and the beautiful scenery. C'mon. You know what I'm talking about. You wish you could come, too. Well, you can. We need your help. We ask that you pray daily for us and our mission. We would love your emails, especially when we get there and culture shock is hitting hard. Further, we appreciate any financial support you'd like to give. Not everyone can go to Africa, but you can all be a part of this mission in some way. You may make one-time donations or you can choose to support us on a monthly basis. Inland Christian Center will give receipts for tax free charitable donations. (For more information, please read the note below.) Wow! It is often hard to comprehend that we are actually going to be doing all of this in Africa! With much love in Christ Jesus, we thank you, Janet Justy janetlutz@earthlink.net or jolie9@earthlink.net
